Myofascial trigger point dry needling

Myofascial trigger points are hyper irritable localized spots found in taut bands within the muscle sarcomeres and they can mimic anything. They can be responsible for or play a role in as much as 85% of musculoskeletal pain. It's also worth noting that changes in sensation such as a constant itch, numbness, tingling or burning feelings on the skin are all components across the pain spectrum. Dry needling is an invasive technique where single use needles are inserted through the skin and placed either superficially or deep into the muscle tissues. The therapist will palpate and locate the trigger point which is often associated with the feeling of ropey (taut) bands and nodules.

Needles come in various thicknesses and will reflect the patient's needs and the anatomical location of the treatment. The needle is inserted into the trigger points which will return the muscle fibers to their lengthen position, releasing the contraction knots. Dry needling is an affective treatment for chronic pain of neuropathic origin and has been demonstrated to have very few side effects. This technique is unequalled in eliminating neuromuscular dysfunction of myofascial trigger point origin that results in pain, functional adaptations and Neuromuscular deficits.
